Alice Gow is a jewellery designer in Birmingham, creating contemporary jewellery in silver, gold and precious stones. Her work explores movement, structure and the subtle contrasts created by combining different materials and finishes.
Alice studied at Birmingham’s prestigious School of Jewellery and has maintained a strong connection with the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter throughout her career. Birmingham remains an important part of her jewellery-making practice, with manufacturing and specialist processes carried out in the Jewellery Quarter alongside the work completed in her own studio.
Designing Contemporary Jewellery
Alice’s jewellery is characterised by bold forms and carefully considered details. Silver provides the foundation for many designs, complemented by gold, gilded surfaces and carefully selected gemstones.
Her collections explore recurring ideas of movement, repetition, contrast and transformation. Some designs are deliberately simple, while others build up layers of form to create more complex structures.
The Twist Arch Collection and Twist Continuum Collection are good examples of this approach. Inspired by traditional forging techniques but developed using computer aided design, the collections explore the movement created by twisting rods and hoops of silver. Gold detailing adds warmth and contrast to the clean silver forms.
The Collections
Revolve is one of Alice’s signature collections. The designs use layers of domed circular forms that interlock and move against one another, creating jewellery with a sense of movement and changing shape.
Petaliform developed from Alice’s fascination with structural and geometric forms. Inspired by Islamic geometric patterns and the wonderful mathematical patterns created by Spirograph™, the designs break complex patterns down into simple shapes that can be layered and formed into flower-like structures.
Linear explores a different relationship between shape and surface, combining strong linear forms with curved elements and contrasting textures. The collection reflects Alice’s interest in the way light interacts with jewellery and changes its appearance as it is worn.
Alongside these collections, Alice continues to develop new designs in silver, gold and precious stones. Her work includes rings, earrings, necklaces and other jewellery, with each piece designed to balance distinctive form with wearability.

About Alice
Alice designs and develops her jewellery herself, from the initial ideas and development of new forms through to refining the details of each piece. She enjoys exploring how jewellery can combine strong shapes with movement, texture and subtle contrasts, creating pieces that are distinctive but designed to be worn and enjoyed.
She works from her own studio and also uses specialist manufacturing processes in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. Her jewellery combines traditional skills with modern techniques, with each piece made and finished with care.
